The women’s tennis team wrapped up its fall season with a strong performance this weekend at the ITA East Regional.
Junior Zeynep Altinay reached the third round with two straight-set victories before falling to second-seeded Ramona Budd of Maryland, 6-3, 6-2.
“It was good to see ‘Z’ make it to the third round, she beat a very good player from Virginia,” said head coach Mike Stevens. “It was a good weekend for all four players who played.”
Junior Lya Kushnirovich picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win in the singles qualifying round, while sophomore Jenn Naegeli and junior J.J. Koprivica added an 8-1 win in the first round of doubles competition. Naegeli and Koprivica are expected to play No. 1 doubles for BU in the spring, while Kushnirovich should fill the No. 2 singles spot.
“I’m very happy with where we are right now going into the individual workouts starting next week,” Stevens said. “I’m looking forward to improving even more over the next couple months.”
The team will resume competition on Jan. 27 at the Cornell Winter Invitational in preparation for the America East Championship at Yale on April 28-30.
