3:50 a.m.
A female student walking to the bathroom in Dickinson’s Digman Hall encounters freshman William Marulanda Jr. in the hallway. In a report to the BU police about an hour later, she says he tried to rape her.
4:25 a.m.
The police are notified of the rape allegation; officers identify Marulanda as a suspect, wake him, talk to him, read him his Miranda Rights and bring him to the campus police station to interrogate him.
8:35 a.m.
Marulanda is arrested and charged with attempted rape.
9:23 a.m.
A town justice arraigns Marulanda in Vestal Town Court and remands him to Broome County Jail.
Oct. 15 – Nov. 3
Marulanda remains in the Broome Jail without bail for more than two weeks waiting to appear before a county judge who could make a bail determination. Requests are usually made soon after an arrest, police have said.
Nov. 2
2:35 p.m.
A Pipe Dream reporter calls the Broome County Court to ask whether or not a judge set bail for Marulanda. A clerk checks the records, and arranges a bail hearing for the next morning.
Nov. 3
9:30 a.m.
At a bail hearing before Broome County Judge Patrick H. Matthews, the judge orders Marulanda released on his own recognizance.
1:30 p.m.
Marulanda is released from jail after more than two weeks, including almost a week in restricted housing.
