So an epic basketball season is over and there is this lull over campus. Walking around campus, I see a few students still rocking the America East champs and March Madness T-shirts. Bearcats claws and photos of men and women painted in green and white are posted in the dorms of Mountainview College and Hillside Community. People still have their Facebook statuses set as “WE ARE GOING DANCING” or “Numero Uno.”
It seems as if we are still trying to hold onto those good moments, which of course is not a bad thing. This will be on the lips of students for years to come. We would be proud of accomplishments and how far we have come, and we should milk it for all it’s worth.
It is bad, however, if we are in this mindset that everything has come to an end. I’m talking about the “I wish we were still in the tournament” people, the “Rivera should have gotten MVP” people and the “America East coaches are idiots” people. I have a friend who is going through the five stages of grief (the dude is currently trapped in the depression stage).
Well, I’ve come to tell you that the cheering for the Bearcats is not over. There are so many sports teams out there playing from baseball to lacrosse. The bleachers at the Bearcats Sports Complex are just crying out for some Binghamton butts to warm them as they did in the fall when the soccer season was on. Coach Kevin Broadus and the team have constantly thanked the fans for giving them motivation and a place at Binghamton. The spring teams need the same motivation.
The men’s and women’s lacrosse teams could really use your help at those home games. They are not exactly having the best seasons. Go out there and give them some hope, give them something to grin about and give them something to fight for. Fill that sports complex up and break the record attendance as you guys did at the Events Center game after game.
It may not be your favorite sport, but it’s guaranteed to be exciting. Maybe some of the Hooligans and some of the BU Zoo fans can band together and form a lacrosse cheer squad or baseball cheer squad or softball cheer squad.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the call to arms. My point is, we should not just be basketball fans. We should be Bearcats fans. Now is your chance to prove to your friends and the hardcore fans that you are not glory hounds! The nice weather is just around the corner, so strap on some of that green and white, print out that home game schedule, and go and be part of another team that could have a turnaround season.
