Senior guard Dwayne Jackson was suspended from the Binghamton University men’s basketball team indefinitely on Jan. 19, for a violation of team policy. Jackson is the second BU men’s basketball player to be suspended from the team this year, after junior Malik Alvin was arrested after an incident at Wal-Mart in October.

“We can’t say anything much right now other than the fact that [Jackson] will not be back anytime soon,” said men’s basketball spokesman John Hartrick. “For privacy matters we can’t divulge it.”

Jackson, who has been playing for the Bearcats for four years, was the third leading scorer on the team with 11.9 points per game at the time of his suspension. He was recruited by former BU basketball head coach Al Walker in 2005.

When asked if there were any other ramifications for Jackson, such as legal actions for the violation, Hartrick said that he did not know.

Hartrick has also said that the suspension was not handed down from the athletic department, but that it’s a team matter.

“Guys get suspended from teams for a variety of reasons, and it happens somewhat regularly,” Hartrick said. “It’s not some earth-shattering thing that the department needs to look into.”

In his junior year, Jackson scored 8.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in 23.3 minutes of work per game. He’s also noted for his play during games against America East opponents, in which he averaged 10.5 points.

A former player was arrested last year and accused of assaulting another BU student. The player, Miladin Kovacevic, fled the country after posting bail.
