Head coach Paul Marco and his soccer squad look to even things up with the Raiders this weekend.

Binghamton men’s soccer team (1-1) head to Hamilton, N.Y., on Friday for the Colgate/Adidas Fall Invitational, looking to tie up the all-time series at three a piece.

The last time these two teams faced off was last October at the Bearcats Sports Complex, where Binghamton shut out the Raiders 2-0. The Bearcats will need to pick up where former BU midfielder, Matt Narode left off. Narode connected with the ball to come away with the two goals of the game.

But Binghamton head coach, Paul Marco, is not worried about filling that gap, as he looks to players like senior back Liam Carson to go on the attack. Carson already has two goals under his belt this season.

“Liam’s been great in a moment attacking. He’s been very good in the run of play and very good on set pieces,” Marco said. “He’s a guy who definitely is a threat.”

But the Bearcats are not taking anything for granted against Colgate, and Marco knows it will be a hard match up.

“We had a chance to see them play recently and they were quite good. They’re the cream of the crop in the Patriot league,” Marco said. “I don’t think we saw their whole team for the whole 90 minutes [last year].”

As defending Patriot League champions, the Raiders were voted in the Patriot league preseason poll to repeat their championship. Colgate already sits atop other big-time Patriot league schools Lafayette and Holy Cross, who both defeated top 15 ranked schools last weekend in West Virginia and Massachusetts.

Raider midfielder Chris Ross leads his team this season with two goals while junior midfielder Alex Weekes has a goal and an assist. Senior netminder David Cappuccio was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week this past week for his performance in the Raiders 2-0 win over LaSalle. The shutout was the 17th of his career, which makes him No. 2 on Colgate’s all time list.

The Bearcats continue the tournament with a matchup against the University of Central Arkansas (0-2) of the Southland conference. The Bears have yet to score a single goal this season. They have also been limited to only three shots on goal through two games. Conversely, Binghamton has 14 through two games.

The game against the UCA will be the first time the two teams meet up, but Marco is not worried about the Bears just yet.

“All focus right now is on the Colgate game,” said Marco. “[But] as soon as the Colgate game ends, we’ll prepare for Central Arkansas.”

The Bearcats will look to their fans for help as they face a tough set of road games.

“This will be a good test for us at their place, it’s a great environment,” Marco said. “[That is why] I’m glad to hear that our BU Hooligans will be making the trip. I’m really looking forward to them being at the match singing loudly.”

The Bearcats kick off the tournament tonight against Colgate at 7:30 p.m. They then face Central Arkansas on Sunday at noon.
