Endurance seemed to be the strength of the Binghamton track and field teams this past Friday night as they hosted Syracuse and Albany in a tri-meet at the Events Center. Albany won the men’s meet and Syracuse won the women’s meet, but several Bearcats gave dominating performances.

The women’s team started off strong with a victory in the 5,000-meter run. Sophomore Katie Radzik dominated the four-woman race, lapping each of her opponents two times. Radzik’s time was 17:38 in a race that is essentially the distance from campus to State Street. The men’s team also started off strong with a first place finish in their 5,000-meter race, with sophomore Connor Martin gliding to victory with a time of 15:48.

The men had several other stellar showings. In the men’s one mile race, freshman Chris Gaube placed third with a time of 4:21, just eight seconds behind the first place finisher, Kyle Heath of Syracuse. Sophomore Jimmy Massar powered his way to a first place finish in the men’s 500-meter run.

In the 800-meter run, senior Ben Hebdon dominated the competition, winning by more than six seconds. The other men’s first place victory on the track came from graduate student Adam Goldberg, with a photo finish in the 55-meter hurdles. Goldberg also took second place in the men’s high jump.

Goldberg wasn’t the only star, as the men’s team took two first place finishes in field events. Senior Rory Quiller topped the ranks in the pole vault with a jump of 5.21 meters. The Bearcats dominated the weight throw with first and second place finishes from Justin Halleck and Kevin Hall, respectively. The two strongmen also took the second and third place finishes in the men’s shot put, with Hall placing second and Halleck coming in third.

The women’s team took two sprinting victories. Freshman Jasmine Hinson showed her potential by darting to first place in the 55-meter dash. Hinson also got the Bearcats points by taking third place in the 200-meter dash. The other first place finish on the track for the women came in the 400-meter dash, with sophomore Kim Williams winning a very close race. Bearcat junior Keisha Short came in third, less than one second behind Williams.

The women also had a first place victory in the field events, as junior pole vaulter Katie Wilmer soared to victory over the competition.

Although the men’s team finished in second and the women’s in third, both showed great potential for the spring season. The men’s team was only 18 points out of first and the women were 19 out.
