BU magician to perform tonight

Jeff Kaylor, the winner of ‘Binghamton’s Got Talent,’ will be performing his magic act at the Binghamton Mets doubleheader at NYSEG Stadium this evening. Tonight is ‘Toga Tuesday,’ and anyone wearing a toga will be admitted for free; otherwise, tickets are $4. There will also be two-for-one drink specials. BU professor receives grant for upcoming book

Professor Ricardo Rene Laremont of the political science and sociology departments will receive a grant of up to $100,000 for his next two years of research on Islamic law and its impact on other governments. The research is for his upcoming book entitled ‘Islamic Law and the State in Nigeria.’ Laremont was one of 21 scholars chosen to receive the prestigious grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

Prominent DJ to visit Binghamton

World famous disc jockey Rob Swift will be performing at the Cafe Oasis hookah bar in Binghamton on Saturday, May 12. The event is sponsored by Binghamton University’s radio station WHRW 90.5 FM in conjunction with CPP Marketing and Promotion and will last from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. The show will feature a performance by DJ Swift and a screening of his new DVD, ‘As the Tables Turn.’

Grammy winners to perform at BU

On Tuesday, Aug. 29, Grammy winner B√É©la Fleck will perform with the Flecktones at the Anderson Center. The group incorporates jazz, bluegrass, classical, pop and R&B in its music, and is appropriate for people of all ages. Tickets are on sale at the Anderson Center Box Office, by calling 777-ARTS or on the web at http://anderson.binghamton.edu. Indoor reserved seats are $38 and seats on the lawn are $20. Students with their BU ID will be charged $10 for lawn seating.

Binghamton mayor to speak on Bar Crawl

Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan will be discussing the procedures for this year’s Bar Crawl on BTV’s BU Blog tonight at 9 p.m on Channel 6. The mayor will speak about the ‘dos and don’ts’ of the event, and field questions from viewers via telephone and message board. Questions may be posted on the board at http://www.btv6.org. The first caller will receive a round trip bus ticket from Short Line.

A cappella auditions tonight

Rhythm Method, the ’80s music a cappella group, will be holding auditions tonight beginning at 9 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building, room 27. The group is looking for sopranos, altos, tenors, basses and beatboxers. REACH internship available

The OCC is looking for candidates for its Real Education About College Health Peer Education Internship, in which interns provide an outlet to BU students on health issues like sex, alcohol, stress, etc. The internship is worth four credits and requires a time commitment of 10 to 12 hours per week. Bowling club looking for new members

BU’s bowling club will be active on campus again next semester and is looking for players of all skill levels to join. The club’s first priority is to have fun, but it also places an emphasis on growth of the individual and of the club as a whole.
