A Multi-themed First Friday Event

Valentine’s Day

– Martina DiRose Gallery (81 State St., 2nd Fl., Stephens Sq.), featuring ‘With Love ‘ Oil Paintings & Funky Images’

– The Connelly Gallery (205 State St.), featuring an extensive collection of hand-carved 19th and early 20th century cameos

– First Presbyterian Church (42 Chenango St.) ‘ Jill & Jake Gardner of A Singing Actor’s Studio, Inc. present ‘Songs of Love, Desire & Adoration’ from opera & musical theater in honor of Valentine’s Day. Performances are at 7 and 8 p.m.

Mardi Gras

– The Lost Dog Cafe (222 Water St., corner of Henry Street) begins its celebration with the opening of ‘Mardi Gras Masks ‘ A New Collection’ by mask artisan E. L. Downey. A Mardi Gras Kick-Off Party with New Orleans Jazz by Basin Street Dixieland Jazz Band begins at 8 p.m., and Cajun/Creole specialties will be served from 5 to 11 p.m.

Black History Month

– The Bundy Museum Modern Art Gallery (129 Main St., 3rd Fl.) will feature a group art show with a Black History theme, featuring African mudcloths, raku pottery, paintings, beaded jewelry and sculptures by local artists.

Video and music highlights

– Rod Serling Video Festival ‘ A new First Friday venue, held at Christ Episcopal Church (10 Henry St.), showcasing student-produced, award-winning short films

– Free concert by Southern Tier Celebrates! (Metrocenter, 49 Court St.), featuring Ron Sunshine and Full Swing; jump/swing grooves mixed with rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, soul and funk. The concert begins and 7 p.m.

Friday, Feb. 2

BBC National Orchestra of Whales

8 p.m., Osterhout Concert Theater, Anderson Center

Sunday, Feb. 11

Binghamton University’s music deparment presents ‘Musica Nova in Concert’ at 3 p.m. in the Casadesus Recital Hall. Enjoy a unique blend of new music technology and improvisation with guest performer Eric Ross on theremin, keyboard and guitar.

Tickets are $9, general public; $7, faculty, staff, seniors; and free for students.
