SnoCats, a student group that organizes recreational ski trips, is offering students an inexpensive way to enjoy winter break by traveling to Killington, Vt. to ski and snowboard.

The ski trip will last from Monday, Jan. 3 to Friday, Jan. 7 and include five nights of riding and four nights at Pinnacle, a Killington Mountain resort.

The trip will cost $365. At regular price, a lift ticket for one day at Killington alone costs $84.

Students will stay in a variety of rooms, ranging from three-bedroom suites to single bedrooms. The group will get to the mountain by carpooling.

The week the SnoCats will be at Killington is Killington’s annual Collegiate Fest. Throughout the week there will be several events such as live music as well as special deals for college students at the local restaurants and bars.

Adam Karman, a senior majoring in philosophy and president of SnoCats, said the trip received so much attention that reservations had to be made at an additional hotel. The second hotel is in Pico Mountain, a sister mountain to Killington. Pico Mountain is smaller than Killington, but is less crowded and provides a more local feel, Karman said.

In addition, the lift tickets can be used at both mountains, allowing for variety over the five days.

The trip to Killington will be one of many trips that the SnoCats have made every year since 2008.

The club was founded by seniors Aaron Cohn, Justin Wohl, Eric Rogers and Joe Digregorio, and its first trip was in the spring 2008 semester. The club is now the largest SA group on campus with 425 members. The goal of the club is to provide the best skiing/snowboarding experience for BU students of all skill levels, at the most affordable prices possible.

This year is the first year the club is experiencing new leadership. The new leaders have installed recreational ski trips, an instructor guild and a member survey. The instructor guild is made up of certified BU student instructors who offer lessons for just $10. Karman encourages people of all skill levels to utilize the instructors.

“They have really taken initiative to put in a lot of fresh new ideas,” said Aaron Cohn, a senior majoring in accounting with a concentration in leadership and consulting. “All of the leadership is totally new and they are incredibly energetic and really exciting to watch from my perspective. This year, they were a lot more ambitious with their overnight trip; previously we were never able to get more than 20 to 25 people on an overnight, they are bringing 60. It’s so cool to see.”

According to Karman, the SnoCats will be planning trips to large mountains in Vermont, with more local trips to mountains like Greek Peak and Hunter sprinkled in. The mountains they will visit include Mt. Snow, Gore, Killington, Pico, Greek Peak and Hunter. An overnight trip to Whiteface in Lake Placid is also being planned for Presidents’ Day weekend.
