FRIDAY, SEPT. 23, 6:36 a.m. — Several male suspects from a suite in Mountainview College’s Hunter Hall placed 100 crickets in the common room of a female suite on the same floor as theirs, said Investigator Patrick Reilly of Binghamton’s New York State University Police. The two suites had reportedly been having a prank war, and the male suspects had gone to a pet shop the previous day to purchase the crickets, which they then placed in the girls’ suite during the night. The resident director noticed the sound later on, and emergency maintenance had to be called in order to get rid of the crickets. No charges have been filed yet, but the bill for the maintenance will likely be charged to one or both of the suites in question.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 23, 7:37 p.m. — Officers responded to a fire alarm in Susquehanna Community’s Nanticoke Hall, Reilly said, where a 20-year-old male suspect and one of his suitemates claimed to have been boiling water, which set off the fire alarm. Officers entered the suite to ensure that all had exited, and found no sign of fire. Upon entering the suspect’s room the officers found the suspect’s ID, which had an altered date of birth, as well as a water bottle containing a brown liquid and a bag of what appeared to be fertilizer. After the suspect returned he gave the officers permission to search his room, whereupon the officers found a bottle of Irish whiskey, a bag of green leafy substance which tested positive for marijuana, several hypodermic needles which contained spores for oyster mushrooms, several mason jars of fertilizer in which the suspect was growing mushrooms and several sugar cubes which the suspect stated were laced with LSD. The suspect was transported to the police station, processed, and issued an appearance ticket for the Vestal Town Courthouse on Oct. 11.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 24, 1:15 a.m. — Patrol were on West Drive on campus when a cab driver flagged them down from the Old University Union bus stop, Reilly said. The driver stated that one of his passengers, a 19-year-old female student, was vomiting out the front passenger’s side window. Officers confirmed that she was intoxicated and Harpur’s Ferry was dispatched. When asked where she had been drinking she responded “SDT” and that she had “only had a couple.” The suspect was transported to Binghamton General Hospital.
SUNDAY, SEPT. 25, 2 p.m. — An 18-year-old male student reported having had several items of his stolen from a locker at the Old University Union’s FitSpace area, Reilly said. The student had left his wallet, cell phone and flash drive in one of the lockers and had not secured it before working out. Upon going to retrieve these items he found all of them missing. There were no witnesses and police have no suspects.
