BU SCHOLARS HOLD PROJECT KIDCARE PHOTO ID DAY

This Sunday, Nov. 19, Binghamton University Scholars will host a Project Kidcare Photo ID session in Room 111 of the Appalachian Collegiate Center from 1 to 4 p.m. The event is open to the public, and admission is free. Children that attend will receive a booklet with their photograph, fingerprints and other important statistics for their parents to hold, and there will be food and entertainment. Project Kidcare works with other organizations to increase awareness for child safety. Aside from the BU Scholars, the events is sponsored by Binghamton’s New York State University Police and Sodexho dining services.

STUDENT GROUP RAISES MONEY FOR TURKEY DONATIONS

Students Need This LLC and J.U.M.P. Nation are working simultaneously to raise money for families in need of a turkey on Thanksgiving day. On Tuesday, Nov. 21, the two groups will hold the First Annual Need A Turkey Drive and ask that local businesses and organizations participate. UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS LOOK TO REMEDY E-MAIL PROBLEM

Computing Services has recently implemented several improvements to eliminate spam to an extent and make the server more efficient. During the past month or so there have been periods of heavy e-mail in which messages would be left in queue for days and marked for later delivery, causing major problems for students on campus. BU has brought in a professional firm and an additional server to solve the problem. Additionally, Computing Services is looking to the future and inquiring into different options for replacing BU’s hardware and software.

SPEAKER AT BU TO FOCUS ON PALESTINIAN REFUGEES

On Monday, Nov. 20, Adel Yahya from Ramallah in the occupied territories will speak to students in Lecture Hall 10 at 7 p.m. Yahya, an anthropologist, is the director of the Palestinian Association for Cultural Exchange and has had a major impact in protecting cultural heritage in the West Bank with his published books based on interviews with refugees. Binghamton Political Initiative is sponsoring the event.

FIRST MUSIC OF THE WORLD CONCERT THIS SUNDAY

The first in a series of Music of the World Concerts will be this Sunday, Nov. 19, and will feature over 200 performers. The concert, entitled “Afrika: Music and Dance,” will showcase the Harpur Chorale, Women’s Chorus and BU’s Chorus. BU’s Chorus will feature a new African drumming group and dancers. The show will focus on African folk and ceremonial music, and in two pieces the chants will incorporate elements of Western music. The show is sponsored by the music department, and admission is free for students. The show will begin at 3 p.m. in the Osterhout Concert Theater. For more information, contact the music department.
