Imagine being at a Binghamton soccer game, score tied at one in the final minutes, when suddenly the whole crowd bursts into the same song, inspiring our players to victory in the final moments. Soccer fans can be some of the loudest and most creative fans in the world, and it’s about time BU soccer fans got creative and came up with some war chants.
Some teams have adopted famous songs to be sung by their crowd. Liverpool, for example, famously sings the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein song “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” while Feyenoord Rotterdam, a Dutch team, uses Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.” Other teams’ fans go out of their way to make up their own chants, which are guaranteed to always be loud, if not downright offensive. Here are some of the best:
“Away in a manger,
no crib for a bed,
the little Lord Jesus
stood up and he said …
WE HATE TOTTENHAM, AND WE HATE TOTTENHAM …”
– By Arsenal fans (to Tottenham)
“We’ll never die, we’ll never die,
We’ll never die, we’ll never die,
We’ll keep the red flag flying high,
’Coz Man United will never die.”
– Manchester United
“Forever and ever we’ll follow our team
Sheff United we are supreme
We’ll never be like no [expletive deleted]
We’ll keep the red rose flying high!”
– Sheffield United
“There’s only one, there’s only one, (insert name here)!”
– Used by many teams
“There’s only one, there’s only one Ryan Bertoni!”
– Binghamton University?
Now, Bearcat fans, it is your turn.
How would you like to be the one who came up with the chant that will be heard at Bearcat soccer games 20 years from now? Well, here is your chance to come up with a chant or find a song that the BU faithful can rally behind. E-mail submissions to MarkMacyk5@aol.com and we’ll print the best ones in Pipe Dream and try to get the crowd behind our new battle calls.
