Close games were the name of the game this past weekend at the College of Charleston Invitational Softball Tournament, as the Bearcats lost four of their six games by only one run.
Binghamton University (2-13) played two games for each of three days this past weekend, beginning with a 2-1 loss to Syracuse (7-16). Junior Jessica Whitaker pitched four innings, allowing three hits and one run. Freshman Bri Andrews began the game with a single, then stole home to produce the sole run for the Bearcats. The Bearcats played a 6-0 loss to St. Johns very shortly after the first game.
Binghamton followed these games with a doubleheader on Saturday, with the first game being a 3-2 loss to the College of Charleston. Junior Sandy Meadows put the Bearcats on the board in the first inning, when she drew a walk, stole second and then scored on Deannie Plemon’s single to center field. Plemon, the America East Rookie of the Week for March 4, had three hits in the game. She was 9-for-17 (.529) for the weekend.
Later in the day, Binghamton dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to St. Johns. Senior Meghan Quinn had two RBIs for the Bearcats, while Plemon and senior Sara Eppolito each added one.
On the final day of the tournament, Binghamton began the day with a tough 6-5 loss to Syracuse. Binghamton’s offense centered around Eppolito, who had three RBIs on three hits, including a double in the fifth inning.
In the final game of the tournament, the BU was defeated by the College of Charleston by a score of 11-0.
This weekend, March 22 to 23, the Bearcats head to the Ohio State Tournament to take on the likes of Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green and Ohio State.
