Despite all of its setbacks this season, the Binghamton wrestling team showed it can still be tough and competitive.
Coming off two blowout losses against George Mason University and Duquesne, the Bearcats rebounded at Saturday’s Kent State Open with a 15th place finish out of 34 teams without having wrestlers in the 125, 184 and 197 pound weight classes.
“I think this was the best the team has performed all year,” said freshman 157-pound Chris Wade. “Although we didn’t have any place winners, everyone scored a win. You could definitely see a change in intensity from last week.”
Both Wade and freshman 149-pound Nate Patterson scored three victories after being shut down last weekend.
“I knew I had to work harder to get out of my little funk,” Wade said. “I used it as motivation to prepare for this event, future events and especially the conference championships.”
The wrestling team will be back in action Saturday to compete at the Edinboro Open.
