Zeynep Altinay, Lya Kushnirovich and Jenn Naegeli finished off their fall season at the ITA East Regional at Hanover this weekend. It is a select tournament in which only certain players are invited; therefore, the Binghamton women’s tennis team presented one doubles team, comprised of Kushnirovich and Naegeli, while Altinay represented Binghamton at singles.

Kushnirovich and Naegeli fell to Boston College’s doubles tandem of Dasha Cherkasov and Brittany Delaney, in a close match by a score of 8-5. Boston College, now a member of the ACC, is considered to be an elite team in its conference this season.

Altinay played a tough and drawn-out match against Katrina Elderbrush from Rutgers, but was unable to pull out the win, falling in the third set 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-3.

Going up against some of the best tennis players on the east coast, the Bearcats proved they are capable of handling serious competition. Teams such as Rutgers, as well as Boston College, are considered very successful teams, even outside of their respective conferences.

With its fall season complete, the women’s tennis team looks to prepare for its conference schedule in the spring. The Bearcats have over three months to prepare for the spring season, when they will have the opportunity to take down the defending American East champions from Boston University.
