THURSDAY, NOV. 10, 3:00 a.m. – A student in Mountainview’s Hunter Hall reported that he’d received a series of nighttime prank phone calls over the course of a week from someone he can’t identify. He alleges that the caller told him, “I’m having sex with one of your roommate’s girlfriends.” The police have no suspects, said Capt. Donald A. Chier, a spokesman for Binghamton’s N.Y. State University Police.

SUNDAY, NOV. 13, 10:43 p.m. – Cops were dispatched to the 4M-X side of Oneida Hall after they received a report that a student had been injured from a fight around 9:15 that night. According to the report, two neighbors had gotten into a heated dispute in one of their rooms.

“The friend then told him to get out and threw some of his property into the hallway,” Captain Chier said.

Once in the hallway, the student who was ordered to leave gave an offer to his neighbor.

“He said, ‘you can take one free swing’,” the report stated.

But the proposal ended up escalating things because the other student slammed his neighbor’s head into the wall, causing a laceration to the latter’s head.

Harpur’s Ferry treated the bleeding student.

In ‘n’ out

SUNDAY, NOV. 13, 12:50 a.m. – The police left Onondaga Hall after officers couldn’t substantiate a resident assistant’s report that someone was illegally smoking marijuana on the third floor, A-L side, of the College-in-the-Woods dorm.

I ply guilty (Part I)

SUNDAY, NOV. 13, 2:30 a.m. – Loud noise prompted a police visit to the third floor, A-L side, of CIW’s Seneca Hall. The police identified the 19-year-old noisemaker, who appeared to be intoxicated, and told him to stop being loud. Since the student didn’t have any identification documents, officers escorted him to his room to fetch his ID. They also suspected him of strewing toilet paper around the dorm.

“They instructed him to dispose of the toilet paper,” Chier said.

The officers issued a warning about making loud noise to the student, who had been slapped with disorderly conduct charges for a previous incident on April 10 last semester.

They know how to roll in Seneca Hall (Part II)

SUNDAY, NOV. 13, 3:18 a.m. – When officers walked into a Seneca Hall student’s dorm room so he could get ID (see previous item), they saw the student’s roommate in bed.

“Patrol observed that male’s eyelids were open but his eyes were rolled back in his head,” said Captain Chier, referencing a police report. “They also observed that there was vomit on him.”

He woke up, and the officers called for a Harpur’s Ferry ambulance.

The officers confiscated a bottle of wine from the room fridge and another bottle found under his bed because he wasn’t old enough to drink.

The student was referred to the campus judicial system.

0-4 drinks [Part III]

SUNDAY, NOV. 13, 2:51 a.m. – Officers investigating a noise complaint in Seneca Hall (see above) happened upon a female student lying on the bathroom floor, “with her head in the toilet bowl,” according to a report filed later that morning. “[The] female finally woke up, stood up and said she was just resting.” She said she’d drunk four beers off campus. The officer walked the 18-year-old to her room.

Foul sign language

MONDAY, NOV. 14, 8:22 p.m. – A plainclothes University-police officer spotted a male student in the East Gym trying to vandalize an information sign. He then identified himself as John Nunez — Officer John Nunez of the campus police. The student tried to shoo the officer away.

“He said he didn’t care,” Chier said.

Officer Nunez told the student that he could be arrested for trying to damage the sign. After the student continued to act irrationally and defy police orders, the officer told the student that he would soon be charged with disorderly conduct and called a dispatcher for backup. That’s when the student disappeared towards the basketball court. He couldn’t be found, but the police asked around, and figured out the student’s name based on witness accounts. They tracked him down to Dickinson’s O’Connor Hall where he lived. The police told him that he could be charged additionally with resisting arrest because he fled. But Chier said the police were satisfied after a discussion with the student that he understood the severity of defying a police officer. The 19-year-old was charged with disorderly conduct, and he is scheduled to appear in Vestal Town Court on Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m.

3-2-1 disappear

MONDAY, NOV. 14, 9:42 p.m. – Officers could hear three distinct voices — two female and one male — when they visited the 5A-L side of Oneida Hall last Monday to investigate who was illegally smoking marijuana in the dorm. Yet when the police knocked on the room door and said they were the police, the room got quiet. The officers waited around for 10 minutes.

“The people inside chose not to answer the door,” Captain Chier said.
