Here’s a look at what the best line in the NHL would look like at this point in the season.

Left Wing: Henrik Zetterberg (Detroit) ‘ Up until this season I felt that he was one of the most overrated players in the league, but like I said, that was up until this season. He has a point in every single game and the season is 15 games old for the Red Wings. More importantly, he is producing both goals and assists, with 12 and 13 respectively. Zetterberg also has 11 power play points. Even while being such an offensive player, he is +9 on the year, showing that he can play on both sides of the ice. Zetterberg easily earns a spot on my All-NHL team.

Notables: Ilya Kovalchuk (Atlanta) 13 goals, 7 assists, 20 points; Cory Stillman (Carolina) 8-11-19

Center: Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh) ‘ Surprising, I know, but I couldn’t keep Sid the Kid off my team. After not scoring a point in his first game of the season, he has scored a point in every game since (14 straight). Crosby has put up 23 points in just 15 games (9 points, 13 assists) and is on pace to put up some new career highs. He also leads the NHL in power play points with 12 and a shooting percentage of 25 (minimum 30 shots).

Notables: Mats Sundin (Toronto) 8-13-21; Paul Stastny (Colorado) 7-12-19

Right Wing: Daniel Alfredsson (Ottawa) ‘ I’m not going to put together a team of the best players in the NHL without putting one of Ottawa’s ‘Big Three’ (Alfredsson, Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza) on it. Alfredsson is one of very few players with consistency within his points, 10 goals and 10 assists, making him as dangerous a shooter as he is a passer. He also leads the NHL in short-handed goals with three. The big reason why he makes my team is because his team is off to the NHL’s best start with a 13-1-0 record.

Notables: Jarome Iginla (Calgary) 10-12-22; Patrick Kane (Chicago) 5-12-17

Defensemen: Nicklas Lidstrom (Detroit) ‘ He will go down as one of the greatest defensemen of all time after winning his fifth Norris trophy last season as the NHL’s best defenseman. He is consistent and plays on both sides of the ice. This season he is +11, with one goal and 11 assists. His 11 assists leads all defensemen. He is also a big reason why his team is averaging just 2.2 goals against. Oh yeah, and his Red Wings are 12-2-1.

Defensemen: Andrei Markov (Montreal) ‘ The Canadiens are 8-3-3 and Markov is a big reason for that. He leads all defensemen with 13 points, 4 goals and 9 assists, and has a +3 plus/minus rating. Last year he put up 49 points in 77 games and is on pace to put up some serious numbers this season.

Notables: Brian Campbell (Buffalo) 2-10-12; Brian Rafalski (Detroit) 2-10-12; Pavel Kubina (Toronto) 1-10-11

Goalie: Pascal Leclaire (Columbus) ‘ If someone had said this guy would be the best goalie a month into the season, I’m sure everyone, including myself, would have had a good laugh, but Leclaire is the real deal. He leads all goalies in goals against average (1.12), save percentage (.957) and shutouts (5). While most goalies hope for five shutouts the entire season, Leclaire’s five shutouts have come in just nine games played. Columbus is currently 8-3-3 and Leclaire’s 7-2-0 record has helped quite a bit.

Notables: Tim Thomas (Boston) 5-3-2, 1.65 GAA, .949 save percentage; Chris Osgood (Detroit) 7-0-0, 1.43, .936; Niklas Backstrom (Minnesota) 7-1-1, 1.87, .926
