Their last home game symbolized the season as a whole.

A rare home game against a determined New Hampshire squad, which showed no mercy in dominating the game, was just another piece of the lackluster season for the Binghamton women’s lacrosse team as it was routed 22-5 by the Wildcats this Saturday.

The Bearcats were able to counter a 3-0 start by the Wildcats with goals by Heather Grose and Leanne Musso to narrow the deficit to 3-2. But that would be the closest the Bearcats would get as the Wildcats ran off a 9-1 spurt to grab a 12-3 halftime lead.

Defense has been the primary problem for this team all season long. New Hampshire tallied 37 shots on goal in this game. Throughout the season Binghamton faced 467 shots on goal, while only managing to take 226.

Grose concluded her four-year Bearcat career with a two-point effort. Her first-half goal was the 84th of her career, which leads the team’s all-time goal scoring list. She leads a pack of seniors departing Binghamton this season that also includes Danielle Edwards, Kerry Henley, Nicole Rhodes and Anna Riordan.

The offseason will be crucial for the Bearcats in their attempt to improve on their 1-14 record. New recruits and different tactics will no doubt be a part of the rebuilding effort.
