Broken Lizard, the comedy troupe featuring the stars of ‘Super Troopers’ and ‘Beerfest,’ will perform this week in the first of three Student Association-sponsored events to take place at Binghamton University this month.

Broken Lizard will perform at 8 p.m. this Thursday in the Anderson Center.

In addition to Broken Lizard, the SA Programming Board has announced two other events: Adam Richman of Travel Channel’s ‘Man v. Food’ on Nov. 20, and world-renowned sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer on Dec. 2.

Aaron Cohn, vice president for programming, believes the Broken Lizard show will appeal to the student body.

‘It doesn’t get more college than ‘Beerfest’ and ‘Super Troopers,’ Cohn said.

According to Cohn, the stars will be acting in character, doing stand-up comedy, improvisational comedy and sketch acts.

‘It’s going to be terrific because they will be in character,’ Cohn said. ‘But also, people are just looking for a night of comedy and that’s what they are going to get.’

The SAPB sent out a survey through the SA Line in mid-October and got a high response to bringing Broken Lizard to BU.

Cohn said the show will be fast-paced and interactive with the crowd.

‘I know a lot of people are huge fans of the movies, and they are also just funny comedians,’ he said. ‘I think it will be a nice mix for both fans and people that just want a night of laughs.’

Joe Troia, variety chair of the SA Programming Board, put together the Broken Lizard event, and he believes the show will sell out.

‘I think it’s going to be a lot of fun,’ he said. ‘They’re well known and their movies are popular with college students.’

According to Troia, the SAPB has been in contact with the stars of Broken Lizard for a while now and decided they would be a fun show to bring to BU.

According to Cohn, the ‘Man v. Food’ event will include stories from Richman’s travels of the country and his experiences with foods from a variety of places, as well as a discussion of the best food to be found in Binghamton.

There will also be a cooking demo, a live-audience question-and-answer session and an opportunity to meet Richman at his book selling and signing at the end of the event.

Richman’s ‘Man v. Food’ show is the highest rated show ever to air on Travel Channel.

Cohn said the SAPB did a lot of on-foot data collection at the start of the semester, walking around campus and surveying students on the events they’d like to see.

‘We got a ridiculous response for ‘Man v. Food,’ he said. ‘It will sell out for sure.’

Tickets for Richman’s event will go on sale on Nov. 10 and will cost $5 for students and $15 for the public.

Cohn is looking forward to the event.

‘Oh yeah, I’m excited,’ he said. ‘I love food. Who doesn’t?’

Tickets for Broken Lizard’s show are currently on sale at SA Ink under the food court in the New University Union. They cost $5 for students and $10 for the public.

A total of 1,170 tickets will be sold for each of the events.

Tickets for Dr. Ruth will go on sale at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15 at SA Ink. Student tickets will cost $3 and public tickets will cost $10. The show will start at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2 in the Anderson Center.
