Pipe Dream’s L.J. Spaet recently interviewed women’s basketball player Rachel Laws. The forward played four seasons at Binghamton and plans on graduating in May.

L.J.: What are your plans for after graduation?

Laws: I’m not playing basketball anymore, unless I play in some sort of intramural league while I’m attending graduate school. I haven’t made my decision as to where to go to school yet. I have been accepted into Michigan State’s Ph.D. program in African American Studies, which is ultimately what I would like to be a professor of, one day at a university.

L.J.: What is your favorite memory from your college basketball career?

Laws: My greatest basketball experience here at BU was just being here, working hard for four years and contributing to a program and conference that is on the rise. I had my time to shine while in college, and I’ll miss these years dearly.

L.J.: What will you miss most about Binghamton?

Laws: What I will miss most about the school in the academic sense are my professors in sociology and Africana Studies. They are the reason why I want to be a professor myself.

Head coach Rich Conover on Laws:

Rachel Laws has been the face of Binghamton women’s basketball for the past three seasons. She is an outstanding player and leader, and helped the team accomplish a great deal during her career. She had a great blend of athleticism and determination that made her one of the premier players in our conference. She always seemed to play her best in big games and against top competition, which is the mark of a really great player.
