Environmentally sound busing
Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) announced that the 2006 Transportation Treasury Appropriations bill included the $800,000 he requested for Broome County’s use of alternative fuel buses.
The money will aid the community in converting a fleet of aging and pollution-causing diesel buses to new ones of electric hybrid technology.
“The replacement of traditional buses with hybrids will result in less fuel consumption, much lower vehicle emissions and substantially less operating noise,” the release said.
