Don’t close the book on the season yet, as the Binghamton University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, after wrapping up America East play last weekend, still have one more meet remaining.

Both teams will participate in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships this weekend at Harvard University’s Blodgett Pool, a facility the Bearcats have not competed in this year.

The Bearcats will be one of 33 teams competing in this highly touted event. The field will include conference rivals Boston University, Vermont and six-time defending AE champion UMBC. The Retrievers will once again be favored to win this competition on both sides, as they are led by swimmers Jeff Salgado and Ashley Houghton.

The field will also consist of several new opponents for the Bearcats, with many Ivy League schools putting their teams on display, including host school Harvard as well as Princeton, Yale and UPenn. These schools will prove to be a tough matchup for the Bearcats, since Binghamton’s experience against these teams is minimal.

Binghamton will once again rely on the talent which helped it finish strong in the America East tournament. The men’s team will be highlighted by star David Holmes, who was magnificent in the America East tournament, being honored with the Most Outstanding Swimmer award. Holmes has also gained recognition by the ECAC by winning a Swimmer of the Week award in January.

The Bearcats will also feature senior co-captains Trevor Stone and Brian Koizim, who will be participating in their final collegiate meets, as well as sophomore Brenno Varanda, who will hope to gain valuable postseason experience.

The women’s team will once again hope to build momentum heading toward next season. Behind stars Allyce Brand and Lindsay Wright, the women are hoping to prove themselves in this tough field.
