With four games left in the season, the Bearcats are trying to gain some momentum to find a way to make a push in the standings.

Coming off a loss at Boston last night, Binghamton (10-14, 3-9 AE) will return home to face the Maine Black Bears Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Maine (11-13, 6-6 AE), which sits in fourth place in the conference, defeated the Bearcats earlier in the season 69-64.

‘We’re going to keep plugging away,’ said head coach Al Walker. ‘We’ve got pride at stake.’

That pride starts at the defensive end which the past few years has been the staple of the Binghamton program. The Bearcats now sit alone in last place in the conference and are last in scoring defense giving up 69.1 ppg, while teams are averaging a 45 percent field goal percentage.

That Bearcat defense will be tested this weekend trying to contain Maine’s seniors Kevin Reed and Chris Bruff; Reed is averaging 14 ppg and 6.3 rpg and Bruff is first in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 57 percent. In the last meeting between the two teams, both players had 19 points while Bruff added 12 rebounds.

Two of Binghamton’s seniors, Duane James and Troy Hailey, could be missing in action this Sunday.

‘Duane has a significant concussion,’ said Walker. ‘One of the guys thought that he caught an elbow right to the nose. I don’t know what the usual down time is, but he took a very significant shot and he has all the symptoms of a concussion. He’s not feeling very well right now.’

And Hailey, who scored the Bearcats’ first five points of the game, tried to play through his injury but couldn’t withstand the pain.

‘[I’m] not really sure what Troy’s status is [for Sunday],’ Walker said. ‘I have no idea.’

If Binghamton hopes to avoid playing in the No. 8 vs. No. 9 game in the AE tournament, Sunday’s game is a must win.
