Player of the Year:
Yulia Smirnova — A First Team All-Conference selection for women’s tennis, Smirnova was a team-best 22-5 in singles play. Her 18-2 record in dual play was also the team’s best. Smirnova and Emma Leibowicz were also named to the America East Doubles All-Conference team.
Dani Raske — Raske’s 19 points were second in the conference. Listed a defender, Raske was actually an offensive force for Binghamton women’s soccer, scoring seven goals, good enough for third in the conference.
Laura Franceski — Franceski was an inspirational leader on the court for women’s basketball this season. She ranked third on the team in points per game (8.7) and first with six rebounds per game.
Rookie Of the Year:
Andrea Holmes — Holmes’ 10 points per game were second on the women’s basketball team, and she was the team leader with 34.4 minutes per game. She was selected as the America East Rookie of the Year in March.
Viive Rebane — The Estonia native started every game this season for women’s basketball, and was fourth on the team with eight points per game. Her 5.7 rebounds per contest ranked her second on the team behind Franceski.
Lis Zuern — Zuern tied for the team lead in both goals (23) and shots (73). Her 29 points ranked her second on the women’s lacrosse team.
Coach Of the Year:
Sarah McClellan — After serving on former coach Jeff Leightman’s staff for two seasons, McClellan was named women’s soccer head coach in February 2008. She led the team to an 8-9-1 finish, and a sixth overall finish in the AE. Though it was a rebuilding year, the team out-shone all expectations coming off a 3-12-4 record in the 2008 season.
Mike Stevens — Under his guidance, the women’s tennis team were the AE runners-up, finishing with a 17-4 record. The win total was a school record. Stevens was named AE Coach of the Year last Thursday.
Glenn Kiriyama — He led the volleyball team to a runner-up finish in the America East tournament and a 16-15 record, including a 9-3 conference record, good enough for second in the AE. He was also named AE Coach of the Year in November.
