For the second straight weekend, Binghamton’s men’s tennis split a pair of matches. On Saturday, the Bearcats (3-7) defeated Buffalo 4-3 at St. Bonaventure. After losing the doubles point, Binghamton managed to win four of the six singles matches to come away with the victory.

The following day, the Bearcats lost the doubles point again but could not pull out four of the singles matches, as they lost to St. Bonaventure, 4-3. Junior captain Faisal Mohamed won both of his matches this weekend, improving to 18-7 and proving to be a force at first singles. Freshman Moshe Levy, who returned to action after injury, won both of his matches at four singles.

Binghamton will travel to face Army this Thursday at 5 p.m. and then return home for two matches at the Binghamton Tennis Center, taking on Colgate on Saturday at 6 p.m., followed by a Sunday night matchup against Niagara. The Bearcats have yet to win a doubles point this year and have relied heavily on their singles play.

‘We have to continue to work on our doubles,’ coach Adam Cohen said. ‘The bottom of our lineup came from a walk-on tournament, which puts more pressure on guys at the top.’

The Bearcats have been plagued with injuries and a loss of manpower throughout the season. They have played significant time without freshman Justin Salkin, who will play at six singles when he returns, and junior Mark Piro, an experienced player who returned to the team after studying abroad, decided to leave the team for personal reasons.

‘We have to find a way to win four points, regardless of who comes in,’ Cohen added.
