While Binghamton University students have become accustomed to continuous rain clouds hovering over campus, College-in-the-Woods residents recently began to take notice of a large puddle as it took up permanent residence outside of Onondaga Hall.

The puddle is attributed to a leak in the domestic water system that supplies the residence halls in CIW, and thus far Physical Facilities has been unable to locate its exact position.

‘Sometimes it can be a little tricky, trying to find a single leak in the system,’ Karen Fennie, spokeswoman for Physical Facilities, said.

According to Fennie, Physical Facilities staff have been doing exploratory digging in the area this week to try to locate the source. More digging will take place on Sunday.

While the leak is not affecting the operation of the water system in the buildings, the exploratory digging will temporarily shut down water service to the building on Sunday.

‘We’re going to be doing some digging above the staircase between Onondaga and the Tuscarora Office Building, and also just below the staircase,’ Fennie said.

A similar leak was found in the high pressure water line over the summer.

‘It took us a little while to find that one, too,’ Fennie said. ‘But we’re doing everything we can to repair the system as quickly as possible.’
