Over-the-counter access to Plan B, the “morning-after” contraceptive pill, to men and women 18 and over will begin nationwide by the end of 2006. Major retailers, like Wal-Mart, will likely carry it as though it was cough syrup — albeit with the State-Street addition of checking ID.

Until then, though, Plan B is available by prescription. It can cost around $40, which may not include a physical exam. Some places to go:

– University Health Services (just west of Newing College).

– Planned Parenthood, 168 Water St No. 2, Binghamton.

– Chain pharmacies like those at Wal-Mart and CVS.

Keep in mind though, that many pharmacies (they’re private companies, after all) adhere to a policy of conscientious objection — that is, if a pharmacist doesn’t feel comfortable dispensing Plan B to you, he doesn’t have to. But he will have to guide you to somewhere you can get the drug.
