MONDAY, SEPT. 18, 11:46 p.m. — Police responded to a call of possible criminal mischief in Dickinson’s Whitney Hall — a window had been broken. They arrived to instead learn that two of the hall’s residents (both male) had been racing down the hallway when one lost his balance and, in an effort to stop himself from falling, put his hands out. He instead merely fell hands-first into the end-of-the-hall window, going through both panes. He declined medical treatment, said Investigator Matt Rossie of Binghamton’s New York State University Police, despite having sustained cuts to his both arms and his forehead. He will have to pay for the window.

MONDAY, SEPT. 18, 11:57 p.m. — A resident assistant in Dickinson’s Champlain Hall reported that building residents were brandishing and firing a BB pistol. When officers arrived, their questioning was stymied by uncooperative residents, Rossie said. More prodding eventually led to the gun’s owner, an 18-year-old male. The gun was turned over to police. No charges were filed, but the student was referred to the campus judicial system. He can pick up his BB gun when he leaves campus.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 19, 5:53 p.m. — A resident assistant in College-in-the-Woods’ Seneca Hall called police upon noticing a resident shooting an “air soft” BB gun in the building. Possessing such an item in the dorms is illegal, and the imitation shotgun’s plastic pellets had reportedly damaged the walls. The faux shotgun was confiscated, and its 19-year-old owner was referred to the campus judicial system; but since no criminal charges were filed, he can pick the shotgun up when he leaves campus.

TUESDAY, SEPT 19, 6:39 p.m. — Two 21-year-old male students reported that items they had left in an unlocked East Gym locker had been stolen. It was the same section in which, one day earlier, a 20-year-old had had his bag stolen. Between them they lost around $910 worth of property, including $140 in cash and clothes, jewelery and credit cards. Police have no suspects.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 19, 7 p.m. — The manager of CIW Dining Hall reported that a door near the back of the building had its window broken. The glass was pushed out and spider webbed. It may have been a delivery-related breaking, Rossie said, since the door was near an elevator that is used for loading and unloading supplies. Police have no leads.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 20, 12:55 a.m. — An 18-year-old male resident of Dickinson College’s Rafuse Hall was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. He will appear in Vestal Town Court Oct. 3 at 5 p.m.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 21, 1:25 a.m. — A cab driver, who had been stopped by police for having an overfilled van, reported to the officers who had stopped him that he thought one of his passengers, an 18-year-old male, had stolen $15 in cash out of his change bin. Officers questioned the passengers in the van; nobody appeared to have seen the theft. The driver went on to discharge all of his passengers. Meanwhile, police went back to the 18-year-old’s dorm room and questioned him further. He eventually confessed to the theft and turned over the money to the officers. He was referred to the campus judicial system.

Power surge causes blackout on some campus roads

SUNDAY, SEPT. 24, 7 p.m. — A power surge knocked out the computer server that controls the lights on the West Access Road, in the Hinman parking lot and lots F, G and M. The loss of power lasted approximately four hours, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Drivers navigating on the road and in the lots would only have been able to see by their cars’ headlights; even so, police reported no accidents in the affected areas. Lighting has since been restored.
