Classes resumed today after they were canceled Wednesday because of heavy snowfall.
Students and employees returned to campus for a regular day of work and school. Wednesday, although students didn’t have to make the trek to class, employees still had to show up for work — that is, if they could even get to campus, with snow falling hard and many roads covered.
All but four campus dining facilities were closed, and most if not all of the day’s activities had been canceled.
The announcement came Wednesday evening over B-Line, the University’s electronic newsletter, as the snow began to taper off throughout most of Central New York. Earlier in the day, Off Campus College Transport bus service had been suspended. And only Dickinson Dining Hall, Hinman Dining Hall, College-in-the-Woods Dining Hall and the Susquehanna Room were open for regular business.
Pipe Dream had previously reported that the 7 p.m. women’s basketball game had been canceled; it was not. But canceled events included the Career Development Center’s Interview Overview workshop, the Writing Life event with Timothy Green, the psychology colloquium with Melanie Soderstrom, a noon screening of “An Inconvenient Truth,” the Office of International Programs’ information sessions and the meeting of the Binghamton Bel Canto Society.
Binghamton received over a foot of snow, the Associated Press reported. The National Weather Service had predicted snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches over Tuesday night into Wednesday, with the possibility of as many as an additional 12 to 16 inches by Wednesday evening.
Word of the last-minute Valentine’s gift (for students) was posted late Tuesday evening on the BU Web site.
