It was a family affair for the men’s wrestling team this past weekend.
Freshman Josh Patterson continued his impressive season on Sunday with a strong performance at the non-scoring Nittany Lion Open. Ranked in first place among New York State Seniors weighing in at 171 pounds last year, Patterson has not missed a beat at the collegiate level. Three pounds heavier and a year older, Patterson went 6-2 in placing sixth out of 63 wrestlers among his weight class at the Open. His team-leading three major pins and four decisions account for part of his 13-4 overall record.
Before traveling down I-80 West, the Bearcats were at Bucknell to face the Princeton Tigers and the host Bisons in a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon. Patterson performed well against Princeton as well, winning twice. His older brother, sophomore Nate Patterson also posted two victories as the Bearcats toppled the Tigers 36-6. This was their second victory against an Ivy League opponent this season, winning a total of eight out of 10 decisions, which included three pins and a technical fall. The eldest of the brothers, Michael, did not participate in that day’s matches. Binghamton also posted solid performances from freshmen Mike Kleeman, Brandon Toro-Segarra and Kareem Naguib, all of whom posted victories.
After defeating Princeton, Binghamton suffered a close loss at the hands of Bucknell. The Bearcats were on the losing end of one-point, two-point and four-point decisions in the 27-8 loss, losing eight of 10 decisions. Currently, the Bearcats record stands at 2-3.
You can catch the Bearcats this coming Friday as they host Drexel in the East Gym at 7 p.m.
