Is there such a thing as good fats?

Yes.

Fats are an essential part of the human diet. They are a highly concentrated form of energy that the body needs for bodily processes and physical activity. Healthy fats are found in most vegetable oils, olive oil, nuts and seeds. We also get healthy fats from fish and seafood. These types of fats are classified as unsaturated, and are important for maintaining a healthy cholesterol level and to help regulate blood pressure.

Fats that should be avoided or limited are saturated fats, which are found in animal products, and trans fatty acids often found in baked goods, fried foods and processed foods. The current USDA dietary guidelines recommend that fats make up 20-35% of the calories in a healthy diet.
