Three weeks into the 2013-14 season, the Binghamton men’s basketball team has captured two America East Rookie of the Week honors as forward Magnus Richards won the award Monday afternoon.
Richards, who joins classmate Nick Madray as a winner of the accolade, scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds in Binghamton’s loss to Radford on Saturday. After starting the first four games of his collegiate career and averaging 1.5 points and one rebound, Richards exploded in his first appearance off the bench.
“It was being put on the bench that spurred me to want to drive to get back to what I was doing before,” Richards said. “It was really just motivation.”
