Gym Class Heroes, an alternative hip-hop/rock band from Geneva, N.Y., has been selected to perform at Binghamton University this semester. The band will be coming to Binghamton with the Verizon Wireless Tour during Homecoming weekend.

The band, which met in their high school gym class, has been hard to label as belonging to any one genre, but have a strong hip-hop and rock influence.

‘The Verizon Wireless Tour featuring Gym Class Heroes and two other bands, soon to be announced, seemed like a great choice,’ Sandi Dube, the Student Association vice president for University programming, said. ‘The band is a mix of hip-hop and rock, and is very popular right now.’

The band is best known for their single ‘Cupid’s Chokehold,’ a song featuring Patrick Stump, lead singer of Fall Out Boy. The song reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and is expected to draw a sizable crowd. Last fall’s concert featuring Dashboard Confessional and Brand New came close to selling out.

‘We plan on selling out this show and believe that Homecoming weekend is a great time to hold a concert for students and alumni,’ Dube said.

The concert will cost $10 for students and $17 for the public.

The concert will be held on Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. in the West Gym. Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday, Sept. 4, in the SA Box office and on Ticketmaster.
