On Sunday, Nov. 8, the hilarious College Humor Tour visited Binghamton University. The performance starred the comedic minds of the hit Web site CollegeHumor.com and MTV’s College Humor Show, Streeter Seidell and Jeff Rubin. The special guest was Dan Levy, who has appeared on channels such as Comedy Central and MTV. Release had the opportunity to go backstage before the show for an interview and catch a glimpse of their everyday humor.
Release: What colleges are you from?
Streeter: Fordam
Dan: Emerson
Jeff: Penn State, though it’s OK if you confuse that with UPenn, because that’s what most people end up doing.
Release: What do you like about performing at colleges?
S: We don’t like performing at colleges.
D: The answer is simple — BIG CASH MONEY!
J: We’re only kidding.
D: College students are definitely the best audience for comedy. Since they’re a young crowd, they provide a fresh outlook in many aspects and are open to new and different styles of comedy. There are a number of big names in comedy who became popular through college tours. Most of the fans of CollegeHumor.com are also in college, so that helps in gaining recognition on college campuses.
Release: Which college has been your favorite to perform at so far?
D: Binghamton.
S: Well we haven’t actually performed yet, but I predict that it will be my favorite.
D: You never know … this could end up being the best show ever.
Release: What has been the general response of students from your previous shows?
J: The response from the students has been mostly good so far.
S: Well we had that one show that didn’t go over so well …
D: That’s because it was in Huntsville, Texas.
J: Man, that place was in the middle of nowhere — there’s nothing but cows!
D: It was mainly because they’re really hard-core religious and all, and every time we made an inappropriate joke the whole crowd just became silent. It made things pretty awkward. But Huntsville does have a tattoo parlor right across the street from Planned Parenthood, so I found that a bit ironic.
Release: Aside from your experience in Huntsville, have you seen positive reactions from your audience?
J: Our shows have been going really good. Our College Humor Web site is more popular than it’s ever been in the past.
S: We actually sold out a show, so that spread the popularity of College Humor even further. The Web site has gained even more fans because of it.
Release: So how do you come up with ideas for your comedy skits, and where do you get inspiration?
D: I actually get some ideas from really weird dreams.
J: And sometimes before I go to bed, I’ll think of something funny. Then I’ll fall asleep, wake up and then completely forget what it was.
S: Right before I go to sleep, I might come up with an idea that I think is hilarious. Then the moment I wake up, I’ll think, “Damn! That actually wasn’t as funny as I thought it was.”
Release: Just for fun, what did you guys dress up as for Halloween?
D: I was a frog.
S: I dressed up as Guy Fieri and walked around the Halloween party pretending like I knew everyone, just like he does.
J: I was that old guy from the movie “Up.” What was his name again? Carl Fredricksen? Yea, that’s it. I also had that cane or walker he carried around. It even had tennis balls on the bottom just like the one in the movie.
D: And during that weekend, I went to this Halloween party out in LA. I was walking around with my friends, and we saw this girl dressed up as Jessica Simpson sitting on the couch the whole time texting. I remember thinking, “Wow, that girl looks a lot like Jessica Simpson.” She was even dressed as a medieval princess. After leaving the party, we found out she actually was Jessica Simpson! I was so upset that I never talked to her when I had the chance to.
S: Dude, she was on her phone. You totally should have Tweeted her and asked if she was at that party.
D: Oh crap, you’re right! I have no idea why I didn’t think of that.
