We’re re-endorsing Mike Schiffman for the position of SA president because he’s the best for the job. His relative charisma will help him ease his agenda (as shakily defined as it may yet be) through the often tumultuous waters of the Student Assembly, and it could serve him well in dealing with BU administrators at all levels of authority.

As we wrote in our first endorsement of Schiffman, “His platform involves expanding relations between the SA and the general student body, as well as those between the SA and the local community. He wants to build on the Town Hall meetings started by Matt Schneider, and would continue the push for advertising on Off Campus College buses to help solve their budget crisis.”

But as the endorsement continues, “Schiffman will have to solidify his ideas for improving campus and should consult with SA veterans for guidance. He should use the summer to do research and set achievable goals for himself. Carefully choosing a chief of staff would be a smart move.”

We still stand by that. Schiffman should allow himself to be nobody’s lackey, and bringing in solid people to help execute his agenda is a great place to start.

Even so, one line captures why we like his attitude, and why we stand by our man: “Student apathy is a bunch of crap,” Schiffman said in his endorsement interview. And as we wrote, “We couldn’t agree more.” Let’s help Mike Schiffman turn this place around.

And the race for the position of vice president for multicultural affairs … is no longer a race. As reported on Page 1 of today’s Pipe Dream, Jesse Nathaniel Reed, who had won the original election by a margin of under 20 votes, conceded to opponent David Bass. We hope he stays involved in BU’s multicultural affairs scene, and that he eventually returns to a role of the official leadership he says BU sorely lacks.

We’re not questioning Bass’s ability to put on diverse programming. Let’s just hope he can unite BU’s multicultural factions, which are often at odds with one another and his office-to-be.
