Binghamton University basketball player Emanuel “Tiki” Mayben was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a felony, in his hometown of Troy Wednesday night.

Troy police said Mayben was indicted for sales in drug paraphernalia, according to a report from CBS 6 WRGB. The arrest came after a three-month investigation by the Troy Police Special Operations Section.

When he was arrested on King Street between Jacob and Federal Streets at 8 p.m., the senior allegedly had 3.4 grams of an off-white powder, which field-tested positive for cocaine, on him, police said. He was subsequently charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third and fifth degrees, both felonies.

Mayben helped bring the Bearcats basketball team to both its first America East Conference championship and NCAA tournament showing last March.

Both former and present athletes in the basketball program have come under fire for various controversies involving authorities in the past year.

Mayben is set to be arraigned this morning at the Troy City Criminal Court, and is being held at the Troy Police station overnight.
